Małgorzata Zubielewicz graduated from the Faculty of Chemistry at the Silesian University of Technology in Gliwice and completed postgraduate studies in corrosion and corrosion protection at the Faculty of Chemistry of the Wrocław University of Science and Technology. She obtained the academic degree of Doctor Habilitated in Technical Sciences at the Faculty of Materials Engineering and Metallurgy of the Silesian University of Technology.
She is currently employed at the Coatings and Plastics Centre of the Łukasiewicz Research Network – Institute of Polymer Materials. Her primary research focuses on the properties of protective coatings as a function of coating composition and service environment, as well as on the development of environmentally friendly coating materials. She is also the author of corrosion protection technologies for various structures and facilities and has served as a principal investigator of numerous research projects, including international projects carried out within the CORNET initiative.
In collaboration with Fraunhofer IPA, she has conducted and completed a number of projects aimed, among others, at introducing innovative coating products to the market and at advancing the understanding of anticorrosive mechanisms of coatings. The outcomes of these projects are of significant importance to raw material and coating manufacturers, painting contractors, as well as investors and designers of protective systems based on organic coatings. These results contribute not only to improving the durability of protective coating systems but also to environmental protection.
Małgorzata Zubielewicz is the author or co-author of 145 publications in national and international scientific and technical journals and over 200 conference papers, as well as several industrially implemented coating technologies, primarily for corrosion protection, including: one of the first coatings free of toxic pigments (Pat. 136 455), glass flake coatings (Pat. 165 983), coatings for intermediate protection of reinforcement in concrete (Pat. 167 532), coatings for galvanized surfaces (Pat. 174 855), dispersion coatings for mining applications (Pat. 180 177), high-zinc ethyl silicate coatings, and anticorrosive coatings with reduced zinc content (Pat. 238 117). She is also a co-author of the monograph “Pigments and Fillers. The Influence of Solid Phase Packing on the Properties of Coating Materials” and chapters in several other monographs.
From 2008 to May 2025, she served as Editor-in-Chief of the scientific and technical journal “Ochrona przed Korozją” (Corrosion Protection), with which she remains actively involved. She is a member of the Board of the Federation of Associations of Technicians for Industry of Paints in European Countries (FATIPEC), as well as the Board of the regional branch of the Association of Engineers and Technicians of Chemical Industry (SITPChem) and the Polish Corrosion Society (PSK). She is also engaged in standardization activities within Technical Committee No. 175 “Paints and Varnishes” and Technical Committee No. 155 “Dyes, Dye Intermediates, Pigments and Fillers”.
Since the first edition in 2016, she has been a lecturer in the postgraduate programme “Paints. Varnishes. Coatings” organized by the Faculty of Chemical Engineering and Technology of the Cracow University of Technology. Since 1998, she has also been delivering lectures and conducting classes in the three-level course “Design and Supervision of Corrosion Protection Systems for Steel Bridge Structures”, organized by the Road and Bridge Research Institute.
