Dr. Lorenzo Benedetti is Head of Science and Technology at the EuroTube Foundation, where he leads research and development activities in next-generation sustainable mobility infrastructure, with a particular focus on hyperloop systems, vacuum transport technologies, and advanced civil infrastructure. In the RASCOS project, he is one of the co-authors of the project concept and he serves as WP4 Leader and Researcher, overseeing the preparation and adaptation of EuroTube’s test infrastructure, including DemoTube, for the validation of sustainable coating systems, robotic inspection, and autonomous maintenance solutions under demanding environmental and vacuum conditions.
Since joining EuroTube in 2021, Dr. Benedetti has coordinated multidisciplinary research across civil, mechanical, and electrical engineering. His work combines expertise in structural engineering, computational mechanics, infrastructure development, and large-scale technology
validation. He is involved in Hyper4Rail as a lead expert for infrastructure research and development, and has contributed to SMF4INFRA through the deployment of a smart mobile factory and digital twin system for the production of precast concrete components.
Dr. Benedetti also serves on the Board of Directors of the Datacom Industry Association and co-chairs its Railways Working Group. He contributes to standardisation activities through CEN/CENELEC JTC20 and is active in cross-sector testing initiatives, including ground-based space-analog applications through SHARF, an ESA Ground-Based Facility developed with UZH Space Hub, HSLU BIOTESC, and EuroTube.
He holds a double M.Sc. in Civil Engineering and Engineering Mechanics from Columbia University in the City of New York and the University of Bologna, and a Ph.D. in Computational Mechanics and Structural Analysis from the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya in Barcelona. His involvement in hyperloop technology began at EPFL with EPFLoop, where he served as Structural and Mechanical Advisor in 2018 and as Team Leader and Technical Director in 2019.
